Through the last year, Ofqual, the Regulator for qualifications within England and vocational qualifications within Northern Ireland, completed their consultation, ‘After the QCF – A New Qualifications Framework’.

This consultation concluded that the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) used for the regulation of vocational qualifications should be replaced with a new single and simple to use framework, the Regulated Qualifications Framework (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/bc7be8c5ed59a14d25e6cc48f/files/RQF_Postcard_01.pdf) (RQF).

The RQF has now replaced the existing framework and all new qualifications will now be regulated through the RQF.

So what’s changed?
* The term QCF will start to disappear from qualifications
* Two new terms, Total Qualification Time (TQT) and Guided Learning (GL) (https://gallery.mailchimp.com/bc7be8c5ed59a14d25e6cc48f/files/tqt_postcard.pdf) , will replace the current Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
* The terms Award, Certificate and Diploma stay but will now be allocated by TQT and not credit
* The need to structure a qualification through units and the allocation of credits is no longer mandatory however it is still an option that Awarding Organisations can use

What won’t change?

You still have access to all of the great qualifications available from SFEDI Awards from Entry Level 3 to Level 7 helping you to support your learners develop those all important enterprise and business and enterprise support knowledge and skills.

What will happen next?

The removal of the QCF and the introduction of the RQF will cause changes to existing and new qualifications but this will be managed to minimise any disruption to our approved delivery network and your learners.

We want to make sure that you are kept up to date with the changes that will be taking place over the coming months up until the end of the implementation timeframe of 31 December 2017.

The following steps will be taken over the next few months:
* The removal of the term QCF from the SFEDI Awards website and literature
* The introduction of the terms TQT and GL to the SFEDI Awards website and literature
* The launch of a consultation with our approved delivery network to review the current GLH allocated to SFEDI Awards qualifications to ensure that the introduction of both the new TQT and GL is accurate and reflective of how they are being delivered throughout the network
* The release of updated qualification specifications through the SFEDI Awards website with notifications sent to the delivery network on a monthly basis

So what do we need to do?

The answer to that question is, at the moment very little!

You will shortly receive a link to a questionnaire as part of the consultation we are launching and we ask that all those involved in the delivery of SFEDI Awards qualifications within your organisation take the opportunity to provide their thoughts.

This information will be used in order to inform the decisions made about the implementation of TQT values for all existing qualifications. If you have any questions when you receive the link please speak with a member of our Customer Service Team who will be more than happy to support you.

Over the coming months we will be releasing further information about changes that will be required to be made including the removal of the term QCF from all electronic and hard copy media that you use.

If you or your colleagues have any questions relating to the changes detailed within this newsletter or about any of the products or services available through SFEDI Awards and the SFEDI Group of Companies please contact a member of our team who will be more than happy to support you.
